Year in Review (Suzanne)

When Alisa did her year in review I thought I wouldn't bother as I didn't make all that much this year but as I went looking through my pictures there was a lot more than I remembered.

Here's a shot of our 4 kids all with something I made.   The funnest (is that a word?) part is that they all have the lime green polka dot, even Lukas' shirt on the collar and button facings.

I just finished this little dress and matching slippers for Sophie's B-day on the 24th.

I made 5 of this style dress - the two in the pictures above and three below.

This quilt I finished at the very end of 2008 as a wedding gift for friends.  It was a hard one to part with :)

These next ones were gifts sent in the mail.  I made this one when I was teaching quilting.

And this one for my brother and sister-in-law as a part of there very belated wedding gift.  With both of these I sent along 6 matching coaster that I forgot to take pictures of.

I pieced the back and I almost like it better than the front!

Year in Review (Alisa)

For my last post of the year I'm posting some photos of some of the quilting and sewing I've done this year. In totally random order, some with notes, some without.



This was a Thangles block of the month at my lqs. I finished it this summer for my brother and s-i-l's wedding gift.

Just made this for Melissa to wear on the Christmas Program. I totally winged it and made it without a pattern.

The quilting bug...

Over the past four weeks or so I've "taught" 5 other ladies the basics of quilting! Quite daunting and I often felt like I was forgetting all kinds of things but it was a lot of fun and the finished projects look great. We made a simple square table topper that used six different fabrics. That really helped with learning how to use a rotary cutter and straighten fabric!

The other two ladies will be finishing theirs in the new year and mine isn't done yet either (I have way to many half finished projects on the go...soon, very soon I'll be able to cross a few off!).

Elise Doll Pattern winner!

I just picked a random number and it was number 16...Jen! I have no email for you though so please get back to me with it and I'll get Beatrix to send over the pattern.

I just finished testing this Elise doll pattern for Beatrix at Kindershop Online. It's the first time I've ever made a stuffed "anything" but it worked fairly well. The pattern is very detailed with good instructions and a picture with every step. I had a bit of trouble getting the arms and legs to stay in place when I sewed it all together but if I make it again that would go much smoother.

I added the little sleeves and used felt with an orangey glow because it's for our almost one year old with "red" hair. :) I also hope to make her (our daughter) a dress to match which I'll post later when I have it done and we give it to her for her birthday.

Thrifty Threads #7

Fake silver plates from the thrift store painted antique white. Cheap, easy and nice to look at. Stuck to the wall with double-sided tape.

I know it's not about threads but it's still thrifty, right?

Note Taker

Remember I said I wasn't going to make any gifts? I changed my mind.

I made this Note Taker for a gift exchange this past Friday night. We had to find something in our house or make something. It couldn't cost you money (obviously it could have cost money in the past.)





The outside is pretty boring. It took some restraint not to make this note taker with some bright and beautiful colours. It had to be a gender-neutral gift. Boring.



This was a fun and easy pattern to follow. It came together great. I made the smaller version for a 5x8 inch notepad. I'd love to try the larger version one day too. It was a tad flimsy for my liking but I didn't use Timtex, just a knock-off. Where do I find Timtex or a reasonable substitute? Maybe I'll just use 2 layers next time. Hmmmm...

I can say that I'm happy I have the sewing machine that I have (Janome 6600.) It went through all of the layers with ease.
