Time to let you know that we're exited to be expecting our 5th child to join us this September, Lord willing! With this of course brings a new wardrobe and I need your opinion on what could be a thrifty thread :)
Here's the before picture. A long jean skirt that I never wear anymore:
And here's the transformation! I cut the waistband off, dipping it in the front and put a stretch knit "convertable" band on it.
I cut it off using the existing hem as the new hem and that's the part I think looks kinda silly - but maybe not...
And just to compare, this is the one I bought (but still has the tags on):
So...am I saving myself a pretty penny or does it look goofy?
First off, Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I think where it looks a little off is that the parts that are distressed stop right where you added the existing hem. It's all matched up perfectly but the sharp contrast between the light and the dark stand out. Maybe try your hand at continuing the distressed sections? I know I saw a tutorial somewhere...
How wonderful on your great news! I like the ruffle but there is a big difference in the colors. I do like the straight look also. You might want to try a little distressing with sandpaper. Good luck and many blessings.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteI like the skirt that you re-fashioned better than the store-bought, it has more style to it.
If you are staring at it, the colors don't match up, but I don't think people are going to be staring at your skirt hem since this is a maternity skirt.
I think it looks fine. You should keep both skirts. With summer coming you might really like to wear skirts, even at home.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks intentional and fun. And congratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! I think it looks fabulous. You are so creative! Maybe a little distressing could help but, it looks great how it is.
ReplyDeleteI actually kindof like the colour difference, but I just roll that way ;)
ReplyDeleteI prefer the store-bought one, but not because the altered one isn't as nice. :) You look adorable in both with your little bump. I just like the style of the maternity store denim skirt. I have several in my regular wardrobe. It's too bad we're not coming sooner, I also have a few maternity like that I could lend you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! How exciting!
ReplyDeleteThe colour difference looks good! Don't try distress it, the skirt is cute as is :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! It's cute. The first time I didn't look closely enough at the original skirt to even realize that it didn't have the color-block look to it. But I'm always a fan of ruffle over straight when it comes to skirts. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteI like the skirt you made better! I think the dark colour on the bottom looks intentional, and the extra seaming gives it a lot more style than the one you bought.
I like the one you made much better as well, definitly more style.
ReplyDeleteI like the one you re-vamped better! I like the flare and the different colour and it looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, I have a skirt almost like the refashioned one! No ruffle but the same seaming and more of the flared trumpet shape.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even notice the colour difference in the first photo, only the straight on shot. If it bugs you I've seen "denim" dye before. You could over-dye the whole thing and see if it evens out. But it is cute already!
Thanks everyone! With your encouragement I'll definately wear the one I made :) I'll just decide wether to return the one I bought or not.
ReplyDeleteI like both skirts! If it were me, I'd probably keep both. Well, if money were tight, I'd keep the skirt I fixed and return the store one. Both are equally nice. Either way, you look cute. Congratulations on the new-coming baby. I'm happy for you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job on the refashion. What about adding a band of fabric or ribbon around where the two sections come together. Something simple that wouldn't make the skirt too fussy, but would brake up the color difference a little.
I like it, but maybe the colour difference is a little abrupt. A solid coloured ribbon or band right above the seam would probably make it look more intentional.
