Terrible photo, I know. I had already used them a few times and got melted chocolate chip on them. I need to take a photo fast! |
Finally made myself some new oven mitts! I've burnt my fingers so many times with my old ones but what really got me going was when Benjamin burnt himself. Not good. I simply copied my old ones. I used two layers of Insulbrite to make them heat resistant.
Insulbrite?
ReplyDeleteThey look great Alisa! I need some new ones too but it doesn't feel like something very exciting to make. :)
The muffins look good too. ;)
Insulbrite! - Yes, I'm pretty sure that's what it is called. And no, not too exciting, but very useful! :-)
DeleteHow did you go about making them? Did you line them? or just trace the shape, adjust for seam allowance and sew together leaving the seam on the inside? I tried to line mine but it didn't work. These look incredible and give me hope to try again!! Do you think they will wash up well? Was your fabric already quilted? Sorry for all the questions but these are really stunning!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I'm not sure that I'd call them 'stunning' but they are much nicer than my old ones. :-)
DeleteI basically made a quilt sandwich with 4 layers. Inside fabric, two layers of insulbrite and then my outside fabric. I quilted it then cut out my pattern 4 times (twice one way and twice the opposite way - this is important!) I sewed them together with the outside fabric to the inside. I zig zagged around the edges. Then flip it so it's the correct way. The only thing left to do is to finish off the top edge. I did it with bias binding. I sewed it to the inside then flipped it out and hand stitched it down.
Hope that helps a bit.
Thank you so very much Alisa! And you might not find the oven mitts stunning or exciting but there is something so nice about having a pretty set of oven mitts... And thank you for the directions! I have a stack of smaller pieces of fabric which were given to me which will work wonderfully for making mitts and accents to create custom kitchen sets as presents. So thank you! This definitely helps a ton!!
