Sashing Suggestions?

So...I've finished the blocks for my version of the Paintbox Quilt and now need some advice on what to use for sashing. Can you help? Here are a bunch of options from fabric I had at home but I'm open to other ideas too.
white - I like it just not sure I want white on my son's bed
light blue - I like it but do I love it?
black - I like it but it gives the quilt a very different look (son and husband both like this the best)
bright blue - nice but will the squares with blue on the outside just blend in?
light gray - not so much
gray - before trying anything I thought gray is what I would use...now I'm not sure I like it

I'd love to hear your thoughts!  Thanks!

  1. I vote with the boys! The black looks really awesome and it will be harder for him to outgrow the looks of it, since black is still "cool", no matter how old you are.

  3. The bright colors pop nicely on the black.
The individual squares show best on white but if it's for a boys room well maybe not. =)
I like the light blue as a replacement for the white.

Aren't fabric decisions hard?! lol I always ask people before finally making up my mind.

I'd probably go with the boys and vote black since it is for his room. =)

  4. I saw it on flickr and said white but if its for Lukas maybe the black, the bright blue sortof loses the outside of the squares. Karen

  5. It's black for me, it frames all the colors and helps them pop.

  6. I (an admitted lover of low contrast chic) totally love the dark grey. And the blue as 2nd choice. I think these two have the best long range staying power, for a growing homo sapiens male or anyone else. Still, if the boy prefers black, of course go with black! what's sweeter than making one's boy happy in the here and now?!

  10. I'm voting black. It makes the primary colors really pop out. My second choice would be the light blue. It's a nice contrast but not too stark. I really like the black though!

  11. I'm going with either black or bright blue! The black looks the best as far as quilts go but when I think "little boy" I lean more towards the bright blue. The black looks a little too grown up for me! ;)

  12. Okay, I'm posting again... I think the dark gray looks very cohesive... it has the same shades as the rest of the quilt (=like). I still love the black... it makes me think of space. I know, geeky. :)

  16. I vote for gray. I think it adds more dimension than the very flat black and will wash better over time. :)
