My Happy Garden Baby Quilt

I used the Yellow Brick Road pattern to create a quilt for our school's silent auction.

I won a set of fat quarters about a year ago (and I can't remember where from and it's bothering me.)

It was fun to make a quilt with such an easy and familiar pattern (this is at least the fourth time making it.)

The fabric was wonderful to work with, very satiny. I backed it in a teal flannel.

The quilt didn't sell for very much. I'm not making a quilt again for an auction. Ever. Friends, remind me of this okay?

  1. Love it! The fabric with trees or mushrooms is so darling! I also have this pattern and I always come to it for a quick gift.

  3. I would have bid a lot!!Love it!
That's always been my fear with donating quilts like that. If someone ends up paying $35 and the materials alone cost me $45 I'd be so bummed but I guess the whole point is for raising money- no matter what the amount!

  4. I must tell you a little story. some people just don't appriciate quits like they should. my mom bought a quilt at my school auction when I was in 4th or 5th grade because it was something she could afford (small catholic school in affluent community) and she couldn't stand to have it go to someone who didn't know the true value instead of the $$ of it. I used that quilt all through jr high, high school, and whenever I was home from college, That quilt is now on my almost 4 year olds bed!!

  6. I really like it Alisa!
I've worked with the organic cloud9 fabric too, and really like the feel of it.
If I get the chance to stop you from donating again I will! I know how disappointing it can be!

  8. Oh, those fabrics are so beautiful! I recognize them, they're organic and very expensive! And it's such a lovely quilt. I'm so sorry it didn't sell for what it should've. Things like that just aren't fair. It was wonderful of you to donate it, though. Just try to focus on the baby that will get it in the end, though, and remember that they might never have gotten such a lovely quilt if someone didn't buy it for a song at that auction. You didn't just donate a quilt to earn money, you donated something that will be enjoyed and passed on for generations. And someone out there will appreciate it not just for how much it's worth monetarily, but for how many memories it will hold and how many little babies it will warm and comfort. :)

  10. I didn't make a quilt, but I made an whole kitchen set - towels, apron, mit, hot pads, and a few other little things to go in the basket. I won't tell you what it sold for...because it was sooooo little. *sigh* at least we enjoyed making it, right?

  11. People never imagine how much it costs to make a quilt (let alone the time expense). It's too bad that mass-production has people so out of touch with the true value of handmade.

Well, it is a very, very lovely quilt and at least it will be a blessing to someone. It's nice to meet another Christian woman who hopes to "make more with less" :)

  13. What a beautiful quilt--the fabric is fantastic! I would have had a hard time letting it go. I made the yellow brick road pattern as a king size quilt a few years, and now I can't find the pattern! It drives me crazy. :)

  14. Can I ask where you found the quilt pattern? Or is this a self creation? I think it is gorgeous!

  15. I love the quilt. I am sorry that it didn't bring in a lot of money. I have made things for our church fair and felt the same discouragement.

  17. I absolutely love this quilt! The colors and the pattern are to die for, I would love to make this quilt but I can't figure out the dimensions of all the squares/rectangles or the amount of squares in each color. I would really appreciate your help, I'm loving your blog. Thank you so much for your talents!

  18. Hi Lynn - It's a pattern called Yellow Brick Road by Terry Atkinson and can still be found online and in some quilt shops. Glad you like it! - Alisa
